Daniel Mathis, a licensed nursing facility administrator, was named the new President / CEO of the Nevada Health Care Association (NVHCA) at their recent annual convention. Mathis becomes the sixth President / CEO since NVHCA began in 1974. He replaces Charles Perry, whose tenure ran from 2000-2011. The association members are free standing skilled nursing facilities in Nevada.

A major goal of NVHCA is to promote quality health care and to provide better care for post acute patients / residents in Nevada. Also, the newly appointed President / CEO of NVHCA, Daniel Mathis will lead efforts to create more educational opportunities.

Mathis is uniquely qualified to head the healthcare association. Daniel’s parents both worked in long term care in Louisiana. He joined them in 1982 where he worked in his home state until 1998 when he accepted his first Nevada position at Fallon. During his two years there, Mathis was able to turn around a troubled building.

Due to his success in Fallon, Mathis was promoted to administer the state’s largest skilled nursing facility. After five years there he again moved up, taking charge of a small hospital in Las Vegas.

Prior to accepting the job as President / CEO of NVHCA, Mathis served as Regional Vice President for large multistate provider of skilled nursing services.

“I feel very excited to take the helm of the Nevada Health Care Association,” Mathis stated.  “One priority is to continue the legislative representation NVHCA has provided to its members since 1974.  In addition, I am happy to grow the education arm of NVHCA in order to improve health care for Nevada’s residents.  We must challenge ourselves and evolve to meet the needs of Nevadans now and in the future.”
