FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CULTURAL COMPETENCY TRAINING
1. What is the Cultural Competency Training about?
The training aids to ensure a culturally competent health care system in Nevada with facilities that provide diverse and socially appropriate services to all patients that can reduce health disparities.
2. Who needs to take it?
In 2019, the Nevada Legislature enacted a legal requirement that licensed health facilities provide cultural competency training annually, and at time of hire, for all staff.
**UPDATE: Under the new law (which becomes effective 1/1/24), cultural competency training applies to health care facility employees who:
Provide administrative or support services and have “direct patient contact” at least once per week.
“Direct patient contact” means direct contact with a patient or resident of a medical facility, facility for the dependent or facility which is otherwise required by regulations adopted by the Board pursuant to NRS 449.0303 to be licensed which is in person or using telephone, electronic mail, telehealth or other electronic means, except that the term does not include incidental contact.
3. Is your course approved by the Department of Health and Human Services?
Yes, we are an approved provider per Nevada Department of Health and Human Services on December 29, 2021, for course number “CCT-2021-010” as required by NAC 449.103. Its approval was contingent upon training a large quantity of Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Facilities only.
4. Do you provide continuing education unit (CEU) credits?
Yes, we are approved CE provider for Board of Examiners for Long Term Care Administrators (BELTCA) and the Nevada State Nursing Board (NSNB).
5. When can I take it?
Training sessions are published here.
6. Where are the training sessions held?
The sessions are facilitated online via Zoom once a month.
7. Can I register in a session as an individual?
Single registrations are no longer accepted. When registering your facility, please register the total number of attendees unless there is only one person from your facility attending.

9. I’m trying to register, but my facility is not listed on the drop-down list.

10. How do I receive my certificate?
Your facility’s point of contact will receive a post-document link that each attendee must fill out. Submission of the post-document must be within 45 days of your training date.
11. I attended a training session but have not received my certificate.
All certificates are sent once the post-document training form is submitted. Please ensure that you fill out the post-document training form within 45 days.
12. I have filled out my post-document training form but have not received my certificate.
There is a chance that your facility’s point of contact has requested that all certificates be sent directly to them. Please reach out to your facility’s point of contact to receive a copy. If you still cannot locate your certificate, please email info@nvhca.org with your name, facility, and date of training.
13. I need a copy of my certificate.
Please email your name, facility, and the date of the training session to info@nvhca.org.
14. Do I need to renew my certificate annually?
**UPDATE: Effective April 3, 2023, the statutes DOES NOT require training to be repeated, once an individual health facility staff member receives the training from an approved program, it results in compliance with these laws and does not need to be repeated.
